About Tim Christensen
Tim Christensen is a “Kiwi” (New Zealander), born and raised in the unspoiled islands of “Aotearoa”, (The Land Of The Long White Cloud – Maori). Her soft, green countryside is blanketed beneath that life-bringing cloud, completely surrounded by oceans. The powerful Pacific Ocean, in particular, has shaped much of Christensen’s life-view, as a diver and swimmer and continues to do so. “Waves”, is Christensen’s first series interpreting his beloved ocean, inspired by the mighty Mavericks waves near his home in Northern California.
Like the Bay Area Figurative School of painters, Tim’s subjects have largely been the human form. Persuaded by his young children and years of diving, he has recently engaged other subjects such as sharks and puffer fish, and images from deep space, in larger-scale pieces.
His paintings are large, full of bold color, movement and light, always bright, hot and sexy, as is life. Impatient and energetic brush strokes do not require deep analysis, being emotive and tactile. Pieces are generally “wet”. Some say the paint colors are “fat”, with juicy blazes of color. Sometimes they are soft, dripping and ethereal.
