I am primarily known as a ceramic sculptor. My main body of work is built from clay slabs that I shape, decorate, dry, paint with stains or glazes, then fire. I also slip cast hollow figures from molds I have made. I am often inspired by contemporary characters or politics. I hope my sculptures show my love of life and display a gentle humor for human foibles.
However, I recently began a totally new and unique art process. I became intrigued with discarded wood patterns or industrial models. I refinish them, fasten them to a plywood background, paint them, and attach a hanging system so that they become large three-dimensional abstract paintings or wall sculptures. These works might also be called wood collages or abstract constructions.
