A native San Franciscan, Guy Magallanes is self-taught and has painted since childhood. He made the decision to call himself and Artist in 2000 and returned to competition in 2003.
His work is published in “Splash 9”, “Splash 10”, “Splash 15” and he is one on fifteen contributors to “Watercolor Secrets” – All by North Light Books.
Guy started teaching n 2005 and continues instructing workshops locally at Filoli as well as around the country. He also instructs weekly classes in his shop in San Carlos and a guided class in Redwood City at the Senior Center.
As a watercolorist, I experiment with different techniques painting images that surround me daily. Hyper Realism is how I’d classify my style of painting. I usually paint the image with exaggerated color not competing with the photo reference, I am striving to find the excitement that compelled me to paint it. I let the painting speak to me and it lets me know where to go and what to do.
