About Carolina Mueller

My silk paintings are done on pure white silk. The "skeleton" of the painting is done in gutta (resist) which prevents the silk dyes from flowing. I use black resist to achieve a stained glass look. After drying, the silk is stretched onto a frame. Using a paint brush and high quality, light fast European silk dyes, I start to paint the silk.

I believe a painting should immediately catch a person's eye. Thus I prefer intensive colors, often layering to achieve a deeper hue. Once done, the silk painting is heat set and washed to rinse out excess dyes or any residual salt. The silk paintings are very durable and can be framed without glass.

The silk scarves are either hand dyed or hand painted using vegetable based dyes from France. The two-tone scarves are silk and rayon, rayon also being a natural fiber. They can be hand washed, and do not lose their color.
