My paintings explore ordinary, everyday subjects in simplified ways, focusing
on line, color, texture, shape, and how the forms fit into their surroundings.
I enjoy unexpected color choices and surprises in perspective. I use traditional
and non-traditional tools, and mix materials. I work on paper, wood panel and canvas, and often combine media. The materials, as much as the subjects, can be the inspirational starting point. I love not knowing where I'm going with a project until I realize suddenly that I've arrived.
My work has been developing in 2 different structural ways recently. The first expression is 2-dimensional: mixed-media collage comprised of torn colored tissue paper and fabric laid over a painted surface to create images that are strong in form and vivid in color. The second expression is 3-dimensional: small assemblage sculptures made with found materials such as pieces of rusted metal and wire from nearby construction sites, combined with jewelry findings. The sculptures are either freestanding or suspended. I look forward to sharing these projects with open studio visitors!
