Painting helps me to experience what I can’t express in words. In the process, I experiment, wrestle, discover and create. I’m drawn to the essence of things and try to capture the emotion and mystery of whatever it is I am painting. I paint with layers and often use my fingers to stay connected to the work. I’m also drawn to the interplay of opposites– light and dark, complexity and simplicity, chaos and order.
I studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, and also with the maverick artist, teacher and author Leigh Hyams. I consider myself a perpetual student.
