I endeavor to make kinetic sculptures using uniquely coated optics that provide a colorful and complimentary reflective element to the space they occupy.
Inflection Point Mobiles
I have always been fascinated by the possibility of movement with a mobiles’ innate form. I recognized that coated optics would add a reflective as well as spectrally distinctive dimension to this kinetic medium. Creating these sculptures has been surprisingly therapeutic. I enjoy each portion of the process from concept sketches to machining and final installation. Let me show you how I make them. You’ll get a close look at the secrets of the floating jeweled pivot in my standing mobiles that utilizes ruby and sapphire components. There will also be demonstrations of the fulcrum springs I make to adjust balance points.
