Specializing in nature and landscape painting in oil and pastel. Denise Sils' recent paintings include orchards, a flower farm, the Pacific ocean, Yosemite and the American Southwest. She also enjoys painting valley and rural scenes. One of my first loves is the adventure of exploring the natural world we live in and then communicating the aliveness of those experiences in my paintings through color, light, line and paint texture. I am particularly attracted to the boldness or subtleness of color and light and their movement that can help bring a painting alive. A kaleidoscope often comes to mind. I also value the crispness or contrast of a well placed line, and the texture and qualities of the paint that also help me express how I feel about the subject. I'm inspired by many wonderful artists including Wolf Kahn, Claude Monet, Pierre Bonnard, Gustav Klimt, Fern Isabelle Coppedge and my contemporaries like Richard Schmid.
