About Annie Haines

California Bay Area watercolor artist Annie Haines strives for good design and simplification that celebrates the fluidity of watercolor while maintaining the realism of her subjects. Her bold yet naturalistic use of color reflects the California landscape. Annie finds ample subjects in the boundless variety of natural and historic sites of the Bay Area. Ultimately it is the quality and placement of light and shadow rather than the picturesque that determines her focus. Annie paints weekly with several local plein air groups including the Los Gatos Art Association Plein Air Painters and the Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society. She is influenced by many painters including Keiko Tanabe, Thomas W. Schaller, Yong Hong Zhong, and John Singer Sargent.

Annie’s work has been exhibited nationally and abroad and is held in private collections in many areas of the world. She has been making art since the mid 1980s. Annie received an Associates Degree in Commercial Illustration from Lansing Community College in Michigan. Working for fourteen years as the librarian in the School of Art and Design at the University of Michigan also had a lasting influence on her art.
