I have been drawing and painting for years as an occasional hobby, however, I’ve never devoted much time to it. Over the past year, my artistic voice finally unfolded. I started doing a "drawing a day," which started in April 2017. The more drawings I created, the more my artistic voice surfaced. I found myself drawing scenes from the 1950s, jazz artists, and old classic cars. I am particularly inspired by vintage photos that tell a story. I also enjoy photos with people who have interesting facial expressions. When I see the face of a person from the past, it gives me a sense of solidarity with them. They paved a way for us. They were the innovators.
These current drawings are mixed media including charcoal, ink and graphite. I work mostly in high contrast, adding interesting background patterns as well as elements of realism. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from San Jose State University in Occupational Therapy which has been my career for almost 20 years. I did go through a "Fundamentals of Art" program from 2002-2003 at Art Instruction Schools, which is based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota (distance learning). Thank you for your interest!
