Why Clay? Process, form, surface, color, plasticity, community, humility, tenacity, joy, frustration, angst, beauty; working with clay encompasses all. I began working on a series of pieces during the George W. Bush years when Weapons of Mass Destruction became shortened to WMDs-a description heard repeatedly each day in the months leading up to the Iraq War. The pieces have morphed into Tools for The Next Generation.
I have had the opportunity to explore the effects of wood-firing at high temperatures over the last 10-15 years. After 35 years of exploring clay, the opportunity to truly paint with the fire has been a gift. Fascinating, painful, awe-inspiring, frustrating, educational, physical, humbling, FANTASTIC.
Limited wood-fired functional work also available, ceramic baskets, popover pans, plates, serving pieces, etc.
