About Vineha Bhat

I love color! Bright, colorful, bold makes me happy! I’ve loved to paint and draw ever since I remember. Growing up in India, I painted until high school, then academics took over and I lost touch with it, but my heart was always in the arts. I got back to art with watercolors, when I was in grad school studying Computer Science. It reminded me of what was missing in my life and I took to it with full fervor!
I work with watercolors, acrylics, knitting, embroidery, woodworking, wired & beaded jewelry, calligraphy, sketching,....

I moved to San Jose in 2014, and found a meetup for ‘Pysanky- Ukrainian Easter Eggs’, around Easter 2014. I Googled Pysanky before the class and was mesmerized! Little did I know, what kind of work and patience would be required to make these works of art! I went with my brushes and paints, but was pleasantly surprised to work with completely new materials and tools.

I now work exclusively on my Pysanky all year round. I use kistky, beeswax, a plethora of beautiful aniline dyes and a wide variety of eggs! The geek in me, really got into it. I learned so much about various birds and eggs. I found an online community of worldwide Pysanky artists on Facebook, and this opened many new avenues to me. I’ve made so many close friends and I am thankful for the eggs that made my life so much fuller.

After gathering enough courage to show my work, I’m very excited to be a part of SVOS for my first time in 2019! At my booth, you will see the multiple stages of making a Pysanka. I will also demo a few of my techniques in person. I teach occasionally, but also educate on my Facebook and Instagram pages- @starrykites! Thank you for visiting with me today, and welcome to StarryKites! Love, Vineha
