I built my first darkroom over thirty years ago in my parents’ garage in Palo Alto. Today I live in Brooklyn and work as a photographer. The work I’ll be showing for Open Studios is a series of oceanscapes shot with vintage large format lenses. They owe much to painterly traditions in landscape in that they emphasize atmosphere and mood over high fidelity recording. Slow shutters, bad weather and a hundred year-old portrait lens strip away many details and leave iconic, suggestive images.
I will have a few additional portfolios on hand including portraits from Eastern Europe and work from a recent collaboration entitled “All That You Leave Behind”.
