Sieglinde Van Damme is an internationally exhibiting artist specialized in lens-based media. In 2017, she launched studiosiegXclusive, an art-to-wear clothing line based on her photographs, which made her an accidental fashion designer on top.
“Being a European import into the US, my artistic journey has been fueled by an obsession with identity and experience as I had to adapt to a new society and re-evaluate my value and belief system along the way. Who could I be on this side of the ocean?
I started exploring this process in my work as a dynamic of “defining and re-defining.” I create soft, veiled and layered images that may resemble a true to life scene, but ultimately serve to construct a new idea of what else is possible.
My quest for redefined realities came full circle with my art-to-wear clothing line. As you wear my art on your body, you redefine my work through your experiences in your real life, allowing my work to serve your unique identity.
I want my work to serve as a catalyst to re-imagine what else is possible, to empower you to step into your life ... and succeed."
Sieglinde received the 2009 “Lorenzo di Medici Award” for video at the Contemporary Art Biennale in Florence (Italy); the 2014 Belle Foundation Individual Grant for artistic merit in California; and the 2018 Leigh Weimers Artist Award in San Jose, CA.
